Does anyone have any suggestions for who to go through to build my own website rather inexpensively? I did go through yahoo small business before but it was very labor intensive and I found i didn't have time to keep it up to date. It did have a shopping cart through Paypal but that was a lot of work to set up and keep up to date as well.

I got onto "shop-it" and investigated and while I was on there I couldn't return to any other page once I was on their FAQ page. Then when I closed out and got on again to the home page, none of the pictures showed up once on the "help" page. Doesn't give me much confidence that my webpage would be managed very well. Anyone else have these kind of issues with their webpages (stores)?

When you were having problems with Shopit they were probably doing maintenance. They recently started redoing the whole site to look and work more like Facebook and Myspace. I've had my jewelry on there for quite a while, but since they've changed the site, the photos I have posted in my listings now do not display like they should, so if I decide to keep my page there I'm going to have to redo them all. I haven't even looked at the whole site since the changes, after seeing what they were doing I became disgusted with the whole thing and will probably remove my profile. I'm thinking of trying Artfire, or 1000Markets instead. Since I have my own website that I pay for, I'll try sites that are free just for the extra exposure, as long as it's not a big hassle to maintain them. Still contemplating Etsy though :D

I have a website through MicrosoftOfficeLive, or smallbusiness...I did it myself, paypal attaches to it, the only thing I need to know is how to add check or MO, seems just to point to Paypal. If you have any suggestions for adding payment, let me know. Good Luck, Gloria glofen@cox.net

I just joined today and am in the process of starting my jewelry business, but I also do websites very inexpensively. You can have e-commerce on your site that links with paypal. If interested, just visit my site and contact me through the contact form.

Well ma'am let me suggest to you a place called www.1000markets.com. They are AWESOME!! It's the best way to set up a shop without having to run your own website. Your set up and pictures are free, they just take a small fee from every sale which is only 5.5%+.50c. So let's say you sell something for 10.00 + 2.00 for s/h that's a total of 12.00 they would only take out somewhere between.... $1.10 and $1.20. The website is BEAUTIFUL!! And I think it's a true pleasure to host there. ALSO, they have this tool for the Google search engine that let's you type things in so the internet finds you more easily. For instance...my Boyfriend's mom could NOT find my store on Blujay.com (which is ENTIRELY free but gets almost no traffic unless you promote it) but once I started on 1KM and they got this new tool..in 2 weeks time I could go to Google Search and type in Lp's Jewelry and my store is the first to pop up. That's very helpful!! It's a great place to set up and start your business. Then just let your shop bloom and make some money off of it to save up for your own site. This way you can afford to get what you really want out of a site and not sell yourself short because you're trying to find the best deal. Good luck!
