If I were to go this route, all of the designs would probably be under their own line with the Acailawen Designs name. I'd likely partner with a jewelry casting company to produce my focal pieces. Then train a few people to do the assembly and any c…

The way she explained it was that she sent in a sample, the company liked it, and wanted it mass produce. Yes, she created all the pieces herself. The company wanted more than she could reproduce on her own. I think your venture is different in tha…

Profile Information

About Me
I'm a green couture jewelry & accessories designer, as well as a photo stylist & freelance art/creative director. I do hair/makeup artistry, professional retouching and graphic design work on the side as time permits, often in connection with my jewelry designs or other professional styling work. Jewelry & accessories design is my primary focus professionally.

I'm also a writer, blogger and columnist, as well as a semi-retired commercial & beauty model. A friend once called me a "jewel of all trades, master of whatever is convenient at the moment." It apparently stuck, as I am at my best when working creatively. It's what keeps me going.
How many years have you been designing jewelry?
I designed jewelry off and on as a hobby for many years before pursuing more professionally. I've been a semi-professional hobbiest since 2005. I began pursuing jewelry & accessories design as a full-time professional in late 2008.
What is your favorite jewelry website?

Did you go to school to learn jewelry design?
I'm primarily self-taught, though I am planning to further study silversmithing and lapidary arts at a local lapidary society. I also teach basic to intermediate jewelry crafting classes locally.
Do you have a favorite jewelry designer (other then yourself...)
There are several jewelry designers whose work inspires me; not one in particular.

Custom design vs. production lines

I recently came across a job ad for a technical jewelry designer in New York. The position entailed creating an ongoing line of designs for mass production and distribution in stores. This is something that I've been giving some consideration to, after receiving several inquiries on creating a production line for stores. It's a complicated process and not a decision to make lightly. Really, there are so many things to consider.

The most important consideration for me is whether I can reasonably… Continue

I found s few additional pieces of used lapidary equipment. Have not picked them up yet.. I am hoping to be able and start doing some composite type cabbing with a flat lap set up he had as well..

Gotta wait for the money to come in first though !

Good luck with your equipment hunting !

Hey Andrea..

All is well... Tying to sketch a unique piece of jewelry. Not the best at silver soldering, but trying to think up a neat, yet fairly easy piece.

Staring at the notepad !
