Up until 2005 I gave away my creations as gifts, to so many of my friends. They would all tell me that I was nuts and needed to start a little business and do this to supplement my income. After contemplating and getting enough courage to start in this venture, I decided to put my all into it and see where it would take me.
In 2006 ~Gigi Jewelz~ was born. Gigi was the nickname my dad wanted to call me, but never did because my mom thought of Gina Lollobrigida, who was a sex symbol, and did not think it was appropriate. As an adult I like Gigi, so I named my company ~Gigi Jewelz~ for my dad. As of January 2008 I will be donating a percentage of my quarterly profits to the American Heart Association in honor of my dad, Ralph Anthony Gabriel 1918-1983, and also to the American Diabetes Association for both my dad and my mom (They both had/have Adult On-Set Diabetes). Mom lives with this disease and thankfully has it under control. God Bless you mom!
When I create I use only the finest material I can find. I am quite selective when it comes to quality! My motto is...”If I will not wear it, my customers will not either!” With that said, most of my jewelry is Sterling Silver. I do use 14k Gold Filled too, but you will find most of my pieces are Sterling. And only once and a great while will I use plated silver or gold, but that is only when I create with glass beads. (This will be noted in the description) Please assume if it does not say plated it is Sterling Silver or 14k Gold Filled. The beading wire I use depends on the piece. I can tell you I use the strongest wire to prevent breakage. As for the beads...I love Swarovski Crystals! They are my favorite! All of the shapes, sizes and effects are brilliant. I love adding Sterling Silver Bali beads to them. They make such spectacular bracelets! Another favorite is Fresh Water Pearls; they also go great with the Swarovski Crystals and make great earrings! Recently I have gotten into incorporating chain in my work. I have a lot of fun and have made a few necklaces. Now I find myself fascinated with Semi Precious Stones, I recently made a necklace with 12 semi precious stones that came out so nice, tell me what you think!
I find myself noticing more and more the jewelry that people around me wear, not to mention the celebrities on television, in the magazines and so on. I get inspired by it all, so what I started doing is whenever a design idea strikes me, I sketch it out and write down what I want to use when I actually create the piece. I sometimes find design ideas from different clothing catalogs and try to duplicate it. Some of my clients will bring me a picture of a necklace with a retail price of $500 and I have duplicated it to the best I can for a lot less! It might not be exactly the same but they are quite similar. I have also done some custom work. I love to design with my clients...they say two heads are better than one! I have never done a bridal package, but I am sure I can! So keep that in mind too!
I will be quite honest, I consider myself to be a novice, but with all of my experience I am on my way to expert and it is only a matter of time! I learn as I go and am enjoying every minute of it!
